PROCESS:

PHOTOGRAPH AS A QUEST

Visual medium is often used to make statements. Can it be used ask questions? Let's find out!

AT HOME captures the cultural imprint of RUSSIAN JEWS. It's a chronicle of a people. Its process forces interactions, dialogues. Emotions emerge-- curiosity, resistance. Some strike poses, assert control. Others let go, invite the viewer. All negotiate the private and the public face.

The photographer and the subject tug at the axis of power-- who gets to tell the story? The final product is a MYTH like any other-- a composite of truths. A story of a person becomes the story of A PEOPLE.

METHOD:

FINDING THE SUBJECT

OUR SUBJECT: Friends and strangers. Soviet-born or native-born. Young and young at heart. They must self-identify as Russian Jews.

OUR AESTHETIC: Posed and candid. Extraordinary and average. Special and mundane. Stylized and plain. We want to be surprised and enlightened by what we find. Whatever comes our way. We are not seeking to MAKE reality. We invite its UNVEILING.

SPACE QUEST!
This project is an open question, an adventure. We invite kindred spirits to share our quest.
